So as I sit in my Beijing hotel room, watching “Steppin Up: Save the Last Dance 2″ talk about how “ill” Julliard ballet moves can be in “da club,” I am slowly realizing my bar is absurdly sad for movies. I mean, thus far in my Asian adventure, I have seen Psycho 2 (from the 1980s), Laura Croft Tomb Raider, 10,000 BC, and Witchboard 2, an 80s horror film where an exotic dancer communicates with a struggling account-executive-turned-painter via oijia board to help find her killer but then ultimately ends up just possessing the girl to kill people because she is a tormented soul or something. I don’t remember really, but it had a lot of Jordache jeans.
So yes, while I was flipping between my 5 English channels, trying to decide whether I wanted to watch “magic tricks revealed” again or the news, I grew immediately jealous of this DCist article.
Basically, the NoMa outdoor screening of movies starts tonight at L St. between 2nd and 3rd NE. Tonight’s movie is Spaceballs (meh) but its free and you can buy BBQ and gelato on site! Delicious. Throughout the summer different movies will be shown, including WALL-E, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and others.
Man. BBQ, ice cream and free movies in my town sounds like a perfect idea. Go forth and check it out, I will live vicariously…for now
